It shouldn’t be news to anyone that childhood obesity is a problem. As this CNN article points out, the percentage of obese children has tripled since 1970. Why? Lots of reasons, but the primary culprit continues to be lack of activity. Kids aren’t getting outside as much as in years past. Kids eat more junk food than they did years ago. And as adult obesity continues to rise, we’re simply leaving a legacy of inactivity and unhealthy eating to the next generation.
“A study released last November at a Heart Association conference found that the neck arteries in obese and overweight children were similar to those of 45-year-olds. The children in the study also had “abnormal cholesterol” and were said to be at high risk for heart disease in the future.”
But reporting on it doesn’t solve anything. Turning off the Wii or the TV and getting outside does solve some things. And a little motivation and fun helps make that possible. In the months and years ahead, we’ll help you get excited about doing that very thing.
It’s also not news that snappy dressing sometimes can cost and arm and a leg. We’d like to help there, as well. We fell in love with this the minute we saw it. We hope you do, too.
Black Friday, the Friday following Thanksgiving and typically the busiest shopping day of the year, will be here soon enough. Don’t waste quality mall time on kid’s clothes. Shop early and save your door-busting time for cordless drills and digital cameras.
